En este proyecto participan numerosos investigadores de diferentes disciplinas (arqueólogos, geólogos, ingenieros de minas, etc.) y de diferentes centros de investigación tanto españoles (UGR, IH del CCHS-CSIC, UJA y U. Juan Carlos 1) como franceses (Université de Toulouse 2-Le Mirail y CNRS). Con este proyecto hemos pretendido plantear por primera vez en el distrito minero de Linares-La Carolina, en las estribaciones más orientales de Sierra Morena, un estudio integral y a su vez transversal que muestre la evolución del paisaje y del poblamiento a partir del factor minero-metalúrgico en época ibero-romana. Partimos desde el punto de partida de que la explotación de los minerales de cobre y plomo-plata de estas regiones va a condicionar directamente la organización social y territorial de esta zona hasta tal punto que dicha explotación, control y distribución/comercialización de los metales sería una de las principales causas o factores de desarrollo de este territorio durante época romana. Para alcanzar los objetivos propuestos se han planteado toda una serie de actividades arqueológicas en la zona, tanto trabajos de campo como de laboratorio que se han desarrollado a lo largo de los últimos años.

Doctor en Arqueología por la UGR, es actualmente investigador contratado del Dpto. de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la UGR y coordinador del Grado en Arqueología de dicha universidad. Forma parte de los grupos de investigación, GAECATAO (HUM 296) de la UGR y EST-AP del IH del CSIC.
