Formación académica

Licenciado en Historia por la Universidad de Granada. Se doctoró en Historia (mención en Arqueología) en 2007 por la Universidad de Granada con la tesis titulada “Minería y metalurgia romana en el Alto Guadalquivir: aproximación desde las fuentes escritas y el registro arqueológico”, financiada gracias a la obtención de la Beca FPU del MEC.

Actividad investigadora

Doctor en Arqueología por la UGR, es actualmente investigador contratado del Dpto. de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la UGR y coordinador del Grado en Arqueología de dicha universidad. Forma parte de los grupos de investigación, GAECATAO (HUM 296) de la UGR y EST-AP del IH del CSIC. Ha sido becario de iniciación a la investigación de la UGR, becario FPU del Ministerio, becario postdoctoral (MEC) en Laboratoire TRACES (UMR 5632), CNRS-Université de Toulouse 2-Le Mirail y contratado doctor de la UGR (Ayuda puente). Dichas becas estuvieron implementadas con la realización de dos estancias predoctorales en la Universidad de Huelva y el IH del CSIC y dos postdoctorales, una en el Dpto. of Archaeology de la U. Durham (U.K.) y otra en la Escuela Politécnica Superior de Linares (UJA). Todo ello posibilitó la realización de mi tesis doctoral (2007) que supuso la creación de una línea de investigación sobre minería y metalurgia antigua en el sur de la P.I. en el Dpto. de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la UGR. Durante estos contratos pre y posdoc ha participado en numerosos proyectos de investigación e intervenciones arqueológicas nacionales e internacionales. Recientemente, disfrutamos de un contrato postdcotoral del programa JAE doc del CSIC (2012-2015), bajo la dirección de A. Orejas (EST-AP del IH-CSIC), que le permitió avanzar en los estudios sobre los paisajes mineros del sur peninsular como colaborar en los proyectos que este equipo del CSIC desarrolla en las zonas auríferas del NW de la península.

A lo largo de su trayectoria ha dirigido y participado en más de 30 actividades arqueológicas (prospecciones y excavaciones) tanto en España y como en Francia y Portugal. Asimismo, dirige el Proyecto General de Investigación centrado en el estudio de la minería y metalurgia romana en Sierra Morena oriental (PGI) (2012-2017), concedido por la DGBC de la Junta de Andalucía. Desde sus inicios, su investigación se ha centrado en el estudio de la minería y metalurgia antigua en el sur de la Península Ibérica, desde la perspectiva teórico-metodológica de la Arqueología del Paisaje a través del análisis imbricado de los documentos escritos, la arqueología y los análisis arqueométricos. Esta línea de investigación se divide en cinco ejes que resumen sus contribuciones científicas: arqueominería, metalurgia, arqueología y territorio, sociedad, administración y economía y puesta en valor del patrimonio. Los resultados de toda estas investigaciones se han presentado en congresos nacionales e internacionales y publicado en tres monografías (BAR 2010) y en más de 50 artículos en revistas nacionales e internacionales y capítulos de libro.

Por último, en la actualidad disfruta de un contrato para el desarrollo como IP del proyecto "Minería y metalurgia pre-romana y romana... (Proyecto MINERO)" del Programa 9 del Plan Propio de la UGR (2015). Asimismo, desde el 2019 dirige dos nuevos proyectos como IP: Proyecto I+D "Explotación y comercio del metal del Sureste de la P.I. en la Antigüedad" (PGC2018-098665-A-I00); y el Proyectos I+D+I - Programa Operativo FEDER Andalucía 2014-2020 "Producción y Comercialización de los Metales del Sureste de la P.I. en la Antigüedad (A-HUM-392-UGR18).
