La finalidad esencial de este proyecto es avanzar, por un lado en el conocimiento de la explotación de los metales de dos importantes áreas mineras del sureste de la península Ibérica, Sierra Morena oriental (provincia de Jaén) y el Complejo Nevado-Filabride granadino (Comarca del Marquesado del Zenete y Sierra de Baza), desde la Prehistoria reciente hasta el s. III d.C. y su repercusión en la construcción del paisaje y las relaciones sociales; y por otro, en la determinación de los procesos de producción y los canales de distribución de los metales, en este caso, la plata, plomo, cobre e hierro, dentro del contexto socio-económico de las comunidades prerromanas y la sociedad romana. Todo ello se realizara básicamente a través del estudio holístico de las fuentes literarias y epigráficas, del registro arqueológico y geo-arqueológico y los análisis arqueométricos.

Doctor en Arqueología por la UGR, es actualmente investigador contratado del Dpto. de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la UGR y coordinador del Grado en Arqueología de dicha universidad. Forma parte de los grupos de investigación, GAECATAO (HUM 296) de la UGR y EST-AP del IH del CSIC.
