Antonio López García

Investigador Ramón y Cajal, Departamento de Prehistoria y Arqueología

Actualmente tengo un contrato Ramón y Cajal con la Universidad de Granada y estoy afiliado como investigador externo en la Universidad de Helsinki, donde soy IP de un proyecto internacional sobre la ciudad de Roma “Beyond the Tiber: Socio-Cultural Transformation and Urban Adaptation of the Trans Tiberim Area in Rome from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages”, financiado por la Kone Foundation (2022-2025). Anteriormente, he trabajado en la Universidad de Granada con un contrato de atracción de talento internacional María Zambrano, con el proyecto “Nexos comerciales y límites provinciales en torno al territorio accitano en época romana” (2022-2024), donde soy docente de Arqueología General, Arqueología Urbana, Arqueología de la Antigüedad Tardía, y además he sido docente de Protohistoria de Andalucía. Desde 2018 hasta 2022 trabajé como investigador postdoctoral en la Universidad de Helsinki en el proyecto ERC SpaceLaw, dirigido por Kaius Tuori, al que estuve afiliado hasta 2024 y en el que soy co-tutor de dos tesis doctorales y dirigí un subproyecto sobre los espacios públicos de la administración romana. Desde 2019 hasta 2022 fui codirector del seminario mensual de la Universidad de Helsinki sobre la Antigüedad (HelRAW).

En 2020 obtuve una beca de investigación de la Univ. Macquarie (Australia) para la realización de un estudio sobre Roma. Además, he dirigido varios congresos y workshops internacionales desde 2015, siendo el más reciente un congreso de topografía romana en colaboración con la Real Academia de España en Roma en 2021.

En la Universidad de Helsinki, he participado en el comité científico de varios congresos, y he publicado artículos en revistas de impacto mundial como Historia Zeitschrift für Alte Geschichte, Mélanges de l’École Française de Rome, Archivo Español de Arqueología, Cohent Art & Humanities, o Journal of Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology and Heritage Studies. Recientemente, he editado el libro “Running the Empire: The Places of Roman Governance” para Routledge (2024) y también he coeditado otro libro para la editorial Brill. He sido revisor en revistas como Journal of Community Archaeology & Heritage, Land, Heritage, Latomus, o Antesteria, entre otras.

He participado en varios congresos internacionales de primer nivel, como el de la Asociación Internacional de Arqueología Clásica, Asociación Europea de Arqueólogos, el del Instituto Arqueológico de América, o el de la Sociedad de Estudios Clásicos de Australasia. En los últimos años he sido invitado a dar conferencias en la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, la Universidad de St. Andrews (Reino Unido), la Universidad de Concepción (Chile), la Universidad de Sídney, la Universidad de Tampere (Finlandia) y la Universidad de Padova (Italia). En 2024 tuve una breve estancia invitado como Profesor Visitante en el máster de derecho de la Universidad de Trento (Italia). Durante mi etapa postdoctoral también he realizado estancias de investigación en las Universidad de California Berkeley y el Getty Institute (EEUU), en la Escuela Francesa de Roma, la Academia Americana de Roma y el Instituto Finlandés de Roma, entre otros.

Entre 2014 y 2016 trabajé fuera del mundo académico en el área de patrimonio del Ayuntamiento de Guadix y como director arqueológico del museo de la ciudad. Durante ese periodo mantuve mi vinculación con varios proyectos de investigación como el Roman Temples de la Universidad de Newcastle y un proyecto de investigación de la Universidad de Granada. Entre 2016 y 2017 trabajé en la Real Academia de España en Roma con una beca del Ministerio de Cultura para gestión cultural e investigación.

Me doctoré en la Universidad de Florencia bajo la supervisión de Paolo Liverani con la cotutela de Amanda Claridge (Royal Holloway). En Florencia recibí el premio extraordinario a la mejor tesis en Humanidades de 2014 de la universidad. Gracias a este premio, en 2015 publiqué mi primera monografía en la editorial Firenze University Press, una versión ampliada de mi tesis doctoral. Durante el doctorado enseñé Topografía Antigua de Italia, realicé estancias en el DAI de Roma y la Escuela Italiana de Atenas, y participé en varios proyectos como el Lateran Project (Roma) con la Universidad de Newcastle y los Museos Vaticanos, y en Ostia Antica con la Universidad de Colonia y el DAI. Durante el doctorado realicé una ponencia en el Congreso Internacional de Arqueología Clásica de Mérida (2013) y fui invitado a dar conferencias en la Universidad de Turín y en la Universidad Complutense.

Me licencié en Historia en la Universidad de Granada en 2009 e hice un Erasmus en la Universidad de Florencia. En 2010 realicé un Máster en Arquitectura para la Arqueología en la Universidad de Roma La Sapienza.
